AZAANEX in Nova Scotia
Nova Scotia is having its moment — Halifax has grown fast on inbound moves from Ontario and beyond, and the inbound-moving lane from Toronto and Montreal to Halifax is one we quote weekly. Our partner network centres on Halifax-Dartmouth and reaches Truro and Sydney.
Maritime property has maritime physics: salt air, coastal wind, fog and freeze-thaw work on every exterior, making moisture assessment, envelope-aware inspections and diligent exterior maintenance the local staples. The province’s beautiful older housing stock — Halifax’s century homes, coastal farmhouses — rewards buyers who inspect before they fall in love.
Cities and regions we serve in Nova Scotia
Partner coverage for inspections, renovations and moving centres on Halifax, Dartmouth, Bedford, Sydney, Truro, New Glasgow, Kentville, Bridgewater. Digital, connectivity and business services reach every address in Nova Scotia identically, because our own team delivers them remotely from Toronto.
Local notes
Coastal exposure makes exterior maintenance a genuine schedule item here, not a someday — paint, flashing, and roof checks on a rhythm the salt air dictates.
Ontario-to-Nova-Scotia is one of Canada’s busiest inbound moving lanes right now; consolidated loads run it regularly, which keeps pricing sane — windows stated honestly, as always.
Radon is a documented issue in parts of Nova Scotia — granite geology around Halifax and the South Shore pushes readings up — which is why we suggest testing alongside any inspection here.

Licensing, permits and regulators in Nova Scotia
Who is allowed to do what differs by province, and it changes which professional we book and what the quote has to include. The rules that matter most for our work in Nova Scotia:
Home inspectors
Nova Scotia does not licence home inspectors; we book insured members of a recognised body such as CAHPI Atlantic and disclose the inspector and standard of practice beforehand. Coastal houses get an envelope-focused inspection by default.
Renovations and permits
Building permits are issued by municipalities — HRM’s Planning and Development for most of our Halifax work — under the Nova Scotia Building Code Regulations. Electrical work requires a permit and inspection from the provincial Department of Labour, Skills and Immigration and must be done by a licensed electrician; plumbing and gas trades are certified provincially.
Moving
Movers are not separately licensed; commercial carriers follow the National Safety Code and consumer contracts fall under the Consumer Protection Act. Inbound lanes from Ontario and Quebec run as consolidated loads with honest delivery windows.
Tenancies and taxes
Landlord–tenant matters go through the Residential Tenancies Program at Service Nova Scotia. Businesses charge HST — cut to 14% from April 2025 — filed to the CRA as a single return.
How booking works in Nova Scotia
Nova Scotia runs on Atlantic Time, an hour ahead of Toronto. Halifax inspections typically book within a few business days; Sydney and the Valley depend on partner travel and are quoted openly. Inbound Ontario–Halifax moves need two to four weeks for a firm window, and we say so when fog or winter storms could stretch it.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a move from Ontario to Halifax cost?
It is priced on weight and distance, so we need an inventory — but the lane is busy enough that consolidated loads keep pricing sane. The quote is written, the delivery window is stated, and nothing balloons on the truck.
Does Halifax need a permit for a renovation?
HRM requires building permits for structural, plumbing, HVAC and most basement or suite work, with separate provincial electrical permits. Paint, flooring and cabinets do not need one. We confirm the route before quoting.
Is radon a problem in Nova Scotia?
In parts, yes — the granite under much of Halifax and the South Shore produces elevated readings. A three-month winter test tells you your number; mitigation is routine if it is high.
Why do coastal inspections differ?
Salt, wind and fog attack flashing, siding, windows and roofing faster than anywhere inland. Nova Scotia inspections weight the building envelope accordingly and check for the moisture problems that follow.
Which tax does my Nova Scotia business charge?
HST — Nova Scotia is a harmonized province, so one return to the CRA covers it. The rate dropped to 14% in April 2025; our bookkeeping applies the right rate by date.
