Home Energy Audits
Canadian winters make heating the biggest line on most home bills. An energy audit shows exactly where your house leaks heat and money — and an EnerGuide evaluation is the paperwork key that unlocks most federal and provincial retrofit rebates.
What an energy audit tells you
A registered energy advisor tests the house as a system: blower-door test to measure air leakage, inspection of insulation levels in attic and walls, assessment of windows, doors, heating equipment and ventilation. The result is not a lecture about turning the thermostat down — it is a ranked list of what to fix, roughly what each fix costs, and what each fix saves.
If you are considering a heat pump, new windows or insulation top-up, do the audit first. It stops you spending twelve thousand dollars on windows when eight hundred dollars of attic sealing was the real problem.
EnerGuide and rebates
The EnerGuide rating is Canada’s official home energy label, produced by advisors registered with Natural Resources Canada. Most rebate programs — federal and provincial — require a pre-retrofit EnerGuide evaluation before the work and a follow-up after it. Miss the first evaluation and the rebate is usually gone, no matter how good the retrofit was.
We arrange the evaluation, keep the paperwork straight, and if you go ahead with retrofits, we can coordinate the work itself and the follow-up evaluation that claims the rebate.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need an audit before claiming retrofit rebates?
For most programs, yes — a pre-retrofit EnerGuide evaluation is the qualifying step, and it must happen before the work starts. Check your program’s rules; we can help you read them.
How long does the visit take?
Usually two to three hours, including the blower-door test. You don’t need to prepare much — just access to the attic, basement and mechanical room.
Is this worth it for an older home?
Older homes usually benefit most. The audit typically finds cheap, high-impact fixes — air sealing and attic insulation — before the expensive ones.
Can you do the retrofit work too?
Yes — insulation, sealing and related work can be quoted through AZAANEX BUILD, with the audit report as the scope.
