AZAANEX BUSINESS

Payroll Services

Payroll is the business task with the least tolerance for error: get it wrong and you hear about it from your employees immediately and from CRA eventually. Income tax, CPP, EI, remittance deadlines, T4s, ROEs — none of it is hard, all of it is unforgiving.

What running payroll actually involves

Each pay run: gross pay to net through income tax, CPP and EI withholding — rates that change annually and differ by province — plus any benefits, overtime rules per your province’s employment standards, and vacation pay accrued or paid out correctly. Then the part owners underestimate: the withheld amounts are CRA’s money, due by remittance deadlines that arrive monthly or faster, with penalties that start immediately and escalate quickly, because — like GST/HST — source deductions are trust money.

Year-end brings T4s for every employee by the end of February; departures require a Record of Employment within days, not weeks, because your former employee’s EI claim is waiting on it. We run all of it: pay calculated, stubs delivered, remittances paid on schedule, T4s and ROEs filed on time, every time.

From first hire to a real team

The first employee is the step change — the moment a payroll account, remittance schedule and provincial employment standards all become your problem at once. We set it up properly: CRA payroll account, pay schedule, direct deposit, and honest guidance on the contractor-versus-employee question, which CRA decides on facts rather than preferences — misclassification unwinds expensively, and we’d rather bore you with the distinction now than help you fix it later.

Frequently asked questions

What does missing a remittance deadline cost?

Penalties start at 3% of the amount and reach 10% quickly, with interest on top — and repeat lateness draws attention. It’s the most avoidable expense in business; on our watch it doesn’t happen.

Contractor or employee — can’t I just pick?

No — CRA decides on the facts: control, tools, financial risk, integration. Misclassification unwinds with back deductions, penalties and interest. We’ll give you an honest read before the hire, which is the cheap moment for it.

Can you handle staff in different provinces?

Yes — each employee is computed to their own province’s rates and standards on the same payroll. Remote teams made this routine; it’s Tuesday for us.

An employee just quit. What’s the ROE rush?

Their EI claim can’t proceed without it, and the filing window is days. Tell us the departure date and the ROE is filed electronically before it becomes anyone’s problem.
