AZAANEX BUSINESS
GST/HST Returns
GST/HST is the tax Canadian small businesses get wrong most often — not from dishonesty, but because the rules are genuinely confusing: a registration threshold that sneaks up, rates that change at provincial borders, and input tax credits that go unclaimed by the thousands.
The rules that actually bite
The $30,000 threshold: cross it in four consecutive quarters and registration stops being optional — and the clock’s details surprise people, because the obligation can start mid-year with the sale that crosses the line. Charging the right rate: 5% GST, 13–15% HST, or GST plus provincial tax depending on where your customer is, not where you are — a distinction online sellers learn the expensive way. And input tax credits: the GST/HST you paid on business expenses comes back to you, but only if it’s tracked and claimed, which is where unclaimed money quietly accumulates.
We handle the full cycle: registration at the right moment (registering early is sometimes smart — those input tax credits again), returns filed on your assigned schedule, and the tracking that makes each filing a report rather than a reconstruction.
Behind on GST/HST? Move first
Unfiled GST/HST returns are more serious than unfiled income tax in one specific way: the tax you collected was never yours — CRA views it as held in trust, and pursues it accordingly. The good news is symmetrical: voluntary catch-up filings, potentially under CRA’s voluntary disclosure program, land far softer than discovered ones. If there are unfiled periods behind you, this is the service to start with, this month.
Why choose AZAANEX
Threshold watched
Registration timed right — neither late (penalties) nor pointlessly early (admin without benefit).

Credits actually claimed
Input tax credits tracked and recovered — the refund most self-filers leave on the table.

Frequently asked questions
Do I have to register before $30,000 in sales?
No — but you may want to: registration lets you claim back the GST/HST on your expenses, which can be worth real money for startups spending ahead of revenue. We run the arithmetic for your case.
I sell online across Canada. Which rate do I charge?
The customer’s province sets the rate — 5% to Alberta, 13% to Ontario, 15% to the Atlantic provinces, GST-only alongside separate PST in others. Your store should compute this automatically; if it doesn’t, that’s fixable (and our DIGITAL division builds it right).
What are input tax credits, in one sentence?
The GST/HST you paid on business purchases, refunded against the GST/HST you collected — tracked properly, it’s the difference between remitting everything you collected and remitting the net.
I collected HST but never filed. How urgent is this?
Genuinely urgent — collected tax is CRA’s money held in trust, and they pursue it harder than income tax debt. Move voluntarily, this month; the difference in outcome is substantial and we’ll sequence it calmly.
